PILOT CLUB OF HALIFAX SCHOLARSHIP

The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area Scholarship is established to assist students in Volusia County with a financial hardship. Scholarships are granted to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate a severe financial hardship and a great passion to achieve success.

Individual $500 scholarships are awarded annually and are based primarily on financial need. Consideration is also given for academic achievement and community involvement. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year; a student may not re-apply.

Completed applications must be postmarked/emailed no later than May 15th. Our Pilot Scholarship Committee will notify the award recipients in the month of June. Additional eligibility requirements are listed below.

To apply, complete the attached scholarship application form and submit all required items to PilotClubofHalifax@gmail.com by May 15th or mail to Pilot Club of the Halifax Area, Inc. P.O. Box 11461, Daytona Beach, FL 32120, postmarked by May 15, 2022.

REQUIRED ITEMS TO BE INCLUDED WITH APPLICATION FORM:

1.     Copy of your most recent original HS transcript, showing your current GPA.

2.     Proof of your College or Trade School enrollment (not an acceptance letter).

3.     A typed essay (250-300 words) of “Why I Need This Scholarship”.

4.     Two letters of recommendation (teacher/clergy/employer etc.)

The application form and all documents should be scanned in the above order to a single
.PDF or .JPG file and emailed by May 15th or mailed postmarked by May 15th to the above address.

PINE RIDGE HIGH SCHOLARSHIP AND SUMMER OPPORTUNITY LISTING         MARCH 2023 

Name – Rotary Club of DeBary-Deltona-Orange City Scholarship 

Deadline: March 29, 2023 

Criteria: High School Senior, 75+ hours of Community Service, 3.0 GPA, degree seeking student at an accredited institution, essay with prompt: What are your future plans and how will you align with the Four-Way test, completed application and transcript including SAT or ACT scores. See Mr. Hickey as soon as possible! 

 

Name - Cybersecurity Summer Camp at Daytona State College – Advanced Technology Center 

Deadline: Immediate; course offering is dependent on the number of students demonstrating interest 

Criteria: Must have a recommendation from a STEM teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics); recommendation from school counselor; and 10 sentence essay responding to the following prompt: Why should the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) invite you to participate in the 2023 Cybersecurity Summer Camp? Please see Mr. Hickey with any questions and for a copy of the required form. 

 

Name - Electrical Training Alliance Apprentice Program 

Deadline: Apply and interview year-round 

Criteria: High School Diploma or GED with one (1) credit of Algebra; 18 years of age; valid driver's license; physically able to perform work functions. Fast Facts about program: 3.5-year length, classes two nights per week, organization-sponsored tuition, students only pay for books, On-the-job training, work at a full-time job with a member contractor while earning your license. 100% of Apprentice Program completers obtain their Journeyman Electrician License! Name - BigFuture – College Board National Recognition Program 

Deadline: Applications being accepted currently 

Criteria: Eligible sophomores and juniors receiving academic honors. Target audience is top-performing Latino, Black, Indigenous and rural and smalltown students. Eligibility is determined by performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 or AP Examinations. Please see Mr. Hickey with any questions. Name - Daytona State College Foundation – Principal's Award 

Deadline: Friday, April 7, 2023 

Criteria: Minimum 2.0 GPA, recommendation letter from school counselor, teacher or principal, firm plan to enroll at Daytona State College within one year of graduation. Please see Mr. Hickey to review requirements and to confirm student eligibility. 

 

Name - Student-View Scholarship – one $5,000, two $1,000 and ten $500 dollar scholarships 

Deadline: April 23, 2023 

Criteria: No minimum SAT/ACT score, No minimum GPA, No essays. Simply complete a 20-minute online survey about local colleges. This action automatically enters you into a random drawing for a scholarship award. Please see Mr. Hickey and he will direct you to the steps necessary to access your scholarship survey. 

 

Name - MOAA West Volusia (Military Officers Association of America) two $1,000 dollar scholarships 

Deadline: April 15, 2023 

Criteria: Graduating senior from a West Volusia high school, child of a military veteran or a JROTC Cadet, official transcript with SAT/ACT scores, proof of enrollment at a 2- or 4-year institution of higher learning, college enrollment in a Senior ROTC program is encouraged but not required, child of military veteran must secure parent’s DD214, Military ID or Florida Veterans’ ID. Name - First Generation Matching Grant Program (FGMG) 

Deadline: Determined by participating institutions. Applications must be obtained and processed through the financial aid offices of the school in which you intend to enroll. 

Criteria: Degree seeking student that demonstrates financial need, must have parent(s) that have not earned a baccalaureate or higher degree, be a first-generation college student. Name - Believing In Your Dreams Scholarship – Award amount $1,500 

Deadline: Wednesday, March 29, 2023 

Criteria: 3.0 GPA, must have played basketball or volleyball, and/or been an active member of a high school band, completed application, full page essay with choice of two topics: 1.) Are you adventurous? Compare and contrast a time when you took a risk and a time when you played it safe, 2.) Why do you think our culture fixates so heavily on celebrity gossip? In your opinion, what role does social media play in this behavior?, two letters of recommendation, official transcript with SAT/ACT scores. 

 

Name – Engineering Scholar’s Program at Embry-Riddle (ESPER) 

Date: Friday, March 24, 2023 

Criteria: Enroll in several first-year engineering courses. Learn more about engineering design and computer programming. Learn how to apply physics and mathematics to solving engineering challenges. Ten rising seniors are allowed to participate. See Mr. Hickey for all related details. 

 

Name - Florida American Veterans (AMVETS)    Joseph Kee & Don Rhindress Scholarships 

Date: April 30, 2023 

Criteria: Eligible high school senior, ROTC membership. See Mr. Hickey for scholarship specifics. 

 

Name – James T. “Tom” Russell Memorial Scholarship 

Date: March 29, 2023 

Criteria: Senior at a Volusia County high school planning to enter the field of education as a teacher, essay outlining your motivation to become a teacher, reference letter from an educator, completed application, potential interview. See Mr. Hickey for a copy of the application and additional information. 

 

Name – Volusia County Council of PTA’s  (VCCPTA) 

Date: March 20, 2023 

Criteria: Must be a member of PTA or PTSA, 3.0 GPA, accepted to an institution, essay about volunteering, special consideration if service experiences are education related. See Mr. Hickey for further details. 

 

Name – Bridging the Dream Scholarship / Sallie Mae & Thurgood Marshall Funds 

Date: March 27, 2023 

Criteria: High school senior attending a two or four year college, leadership skills, strong moral character, short video explaining how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals. More information at www.salliemae.com/landing/bridging-the-dream/  See Mr. Hickey for support. 

 

Name – Matt Buth Foundation Scholarship 

Date: March 31, 2023 

Criteria: Graduating senior, one year in Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Choir or any musical arts program, completed application, website: mattbuthfoundation.org for information and application, please see Mr. Hickey for further details. 

 

Name - The Beta Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship Program 

Date: March 15, 2023

Criteria: Female student, graduating senior, resides in Deltona, intending to enter college, participation in school and community work, two letters of reference, application, brief essay.
