Cybersecurity

The Cyber Security program at Pine Ridge High School offers hands-on, practical learning in the ever-evolving landscape of digital security to prepare students for a career in Cyber Security.

Through immersive simulations, competitions, and real-world scenarios, students develop critical skills to protect against cyber threats and vulnerabilities.

Students will learn the tools and systems used to monitor, mitigate, and prevent online threats. Cybersecurity professionals use innovative technology to combat hackers, cyberterrorists, network outages, and other technical problems that compromise network security.

Course Progression

 Year 1: IT Fundamentals

Students learn the very basics of computers. They learn how to troubleshoot blue screens, how to do minor repairs as well as learning the different careers in IT.

Year 2: CPT and Net Security

Students will learn about networking, how it works and what’s the purpose of it. They will then use that knowledge to set up their own networks using Cisco Packet Tracer.

Industry Certification: Information Technology Specialist (ITS) – Device Configuration and Management Certification Exam

Year 3: Cybersecurity Essentials

Students will use the knowledge gained from the previous two courses and apply it to Cybersecurity. They'll learn about vulnerabilities, intrusions about cryptography as well as general Cybersecurity knowledge.

Industry Certification: Information Technology Specialist (ITS) – Cybersecurity

Year 4: Operational Cybersecurity

Students will put all their knowledge together and put it into effect. Students will see how Cybersecurity works in the real world, how vulnerabilities can be exposed, and how to protect from intrusions.

Industry Certification: Information Technology Specialist (ITS) – Network Security

Competitions:

 CyberPatriot
