Culinary Arts
In the Culinary Arts program students learn about careers in the food science industry; execute care & use of commercial culinary equipment; perform front-of-the-house & back-of-the-house managerial duties; prepare quality food products & present them creatively; demonstrate safety & sanitary work procedures; understand food science & related to cooking & baking; & utilize nutrition concepts when planning meals/menus.
The Culinary Arts students of Pine Ridge High competed in the Sharpen Your Skills Challenge at Daytona State on December 6th. Our team of four culinary experts will be competing in the Culinary Competition which includes preparing one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert in 60 minutes. One student will be competing individually in the Edible Centerpiece Competition.
The awards given were scholarships from $200 to $1000 that the students can use for post-secondary education at Daytona State. We are so honored to be affiliated with Daytona State and want to thank the Program Coordinator Mrs. Lisa Allen and Dean of Hospitality and Culinary Management Chef Costa Magoulas for including us in this amazing event.
All the students that are competing have earned their Servesafe Food manger Certification which is a wonderful accomplishment.
Each student is considered a certified food manager for five years!
